Two-thirds of offers are a MAYBE. Here's how to call them.
In July, only 14% of analyzed offers cleared both of drivers' own floors, and 20% cleared neither (July Index). The other 66% were MAYBEs — offers that pass one test and fail the other. Two-thirds of the decisions you make behind the wheel live in that mushy middle, and how you call them quietly decides your week.
The two flavors of MAYBE
Pays the car, wastes the clock. The per-mile number looks fine, but a long pickup, a slow restaurant, or a short hop that strands you means the projected hourly lands under your floor. The car gets paid; your time doesn't.
Pays the clock, eats the car. The long highway run: miles pile up fast, so the hourly looks respectable — but under your per-mile floor, the car's cut erases the margin (the gross-vs-net math). You're busy the whole hour and keeping less than it feels like.
Three questions that break the tie
Which floor failed? A per-mile fail means the car loses on every mile — that's the expensive kind, and the answer is almost always no. A per-hour fail means your time is underpaid — cheaper to forgive in the right moment.
What's the hour like? In a hot queue, a MAYBE costs you the TAKE that was coming — treat it as a SKIP. In a dead half-hour, a MAYBE that only fails your hourly is competing with earning zero, and zero usually loses. Better still, widen the funnel so dead hours send more offers to filter.
Where does it leave you? A MAYBE that ends at the airport queue or downtown at 5pm carries repositioning value on top of its pay. One that strands you twenty minutes from demand costs you the next offer too — price that in before you tap.
Rule of thumb: busy hour → a MAYBE is a SKIP. Dead hour → a MAYBE that only fails your hourly can beat an empty seat. A MAYBE that fails per-mile never does — that's paying to work.
Where GigReal fits: Trip Identifier shows both numbers against your own floors before you accept, so you can see which side of the MAYBE failed — and your dashboard shows whether your MAYBE habit is helping or hurting your real hourly.
